Strawberry Collagen Beauty Smoothie

Picture this scene — its 7am, you're scrambling to get dressed, make breakfast, take your vitamins, while also possibly trying to corral your toddler into underwear as well...You really want to start your day on a positive note, and not feel like a chicken running around with her head cut off. (I always thought that was a weird image, but let's go with it). You want to feel like a girl with her stuff together. You want to eat a delicious breakfast, and have some energy for the day.

And if this smoothie could help you get glowing skin, help your hair and nails grow, and improve heart and joint health — that wouldn't hurt either right? Enter the Strawberry Collagen Beauty Smoothie. This came about after I was putting collagen powder in my coffee for about a year. But sometimes I prefer iced coffee, and it just didn't disintegrate with as little effort. So I wanted to find another way to get my collagen.

I realized if I'm already having a smoothie it would be ridiculously simple to throw my vital proteins collagen in there. Collagen has been gaining popularity over the past few years in the wellness space.

What is collagen, really? It's essentially the glue keeping your body together. It basically maintains the structure and integrity of your skin, bones, and muscle tissue.

Studies have shown that it can help digestion (especially leaky gut syndrome), aid in muscle recovery and joint health, ease muscle pain, and improve skin elasticity (which helps that glow!)

On an anecdotal note I stopped taking collagen for about three weeks when we moved, and I noticed my nails started breaking and my skin just didn’t look as fresh. Once I got back to it that changed, and my once dullish skin definitely brightened!

So this smoothie really is a jack-of-all -trades. It’s also delicious, and pretty too.

Ingredients

Serves 1

  • 1 cup almond or coconut milk
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 scoop collagen powder ( I like Vital Proteins)
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 2 ice cubes
  • 1 tsp chia seeds (optional)
  • fresh mint sprigs , and fresh strawberry on top (optional)

Throw in your blender, and you're set!

Enjoy, and let me know your thoughts!

Have you tried collagen? What do you think?
